Hi, I’m Barbara and welcome to my Kayla Itsines Bikini Body Guide (BBG Workout) review. It’s been almost seven months now since I started using Kayla Itsines Workout, also known as the BBG program.
So I’ve finally decided to write this Kayla Itsines review and share my results with my blog readers! I’ll share with you how it helped me to lose 50 pounds and changed my life (You can see my transformation pictures throughout this review).

OK. Here goes my BBG review.
Nothing’s more exciting than getting pregnant and having a baby. Nothing’s more depressing than gaining 50 pounds as a result.
Having the baby is easy, at least compared to what it takes to lose that baby bump. Especially when the “bump” is more like a bowling ball (or two of them!).
I bet a lot of you who are reading this can understand exactly what I mean. Even if your extra weight wasn’t because of pregnancy.
It really doesn’t matter where the extra pounds came from – getting rid of them can seem impossible. It was particularly traumatic for me.
I’m a 37-year old woman from Southern California so I grew up exercising in great weather. I was always in good shape – with the body to go with it. I didn’t eat much junk food, liked to play tennis, looked great in a bikini, and never had to think about my weight.
My weight has never been an issue in my life until I got married twelve years ago. I quit my job and became a full-time wife after getting married.
The baby came right after my first year wedding anniversary. It was hard to think about anything else except for taking care of my baby. I started to pack on the pounds as my daughter got older.
I have gained almost 50 pounds. I was fixated on those 50 pounds and had to get rid of them.
I’m sure you know that’s easier said than done. Since I had a daughter to take care of, I couldn’t go to the gym or play tennis.
So I tried all sorts of things that I could do at home, like the exercise programs published in magazines and on “new mom” websites. I got a treadmill. I tried a bunch of different diets that supposedly would work wonders.
I even resorted to buying some of the diet pills (excuse me, “supplements”) that I found online and promised to “get my body working overtime to burn excess fat.”
You can guess how all of that worked out. Sure, I lost a few pounds here and there, but they came right back as soon as I had a couple of really busy days that interfered with my routine, or as soon as I had a food craving that busted a diet.
It was tempting to give up, but I’m not that type of person. I kept searching, and started thinking about trying one of the comprehensive online programs I’d seen which promised to “build bikini bodies.”
That was definitely what I was after. So I narrowed down my choices and ended up giving Kayla Itsines BBG workout a try. I’ll explain why that’s the one I chose, in this complete Kayla Itsines review.
Actually, before I start the review I’ll give you just a little teaser.
I lost all of the weight I wanted to lose within six months. You can see more transformation pictures towards the end of this review 🙂
Kayla Itsines Workout Review
There are a ton of programs like the Kayla’s BBG workout pdf, so I did a lot of work narrowing them down.
First, I eliminated the ones that were just diets or just exercise routines, because I’d had bad luck with those already.
I wanted a program that combined the two elements to work together. I wanted it from someone who had the expertise along with a good reputation to create a fitness program like this.
Kayla Itsines, a certified personal trainer from Australia, made that cut. The transformation pictures of her clients which were posted on her Instagram impressed me.
Then, I wanted one which didn’t start out with a starvation diet or exercises which would be impossible for me to tackle at the beginning. I also wanted one which gave me exact directions on what to do and what to eat, since I’m not good at “guesswork.”
Again, Kayla Itsines ebook fit those criteria because the program started slowly and built over time, and was set up completely step-by-step.
Finally, when you look at almost anything online, the biggest temptation is to choose the option with the best reviews or testimonials.
I didn’t pick the Bikini Body Guide only on the basis of the Kayla Itsines reviews on her website. I wanted to see a good number of them with specific user reviews that are not on her website. In other words, independent neutral reviews posted on third-party websites. She had those, too.
However, I was still skeptical because I’ve been disappointed too many times before. So I tried searching online for more information. I tried looking for free trials. I tried looking for discount coupons.
And I got lucky. I came across a forum thread in MyFitnessPal where the forum members were sharing an 80% discount link for Kayla’s Bikini Body Guide eBooks. With that discount link, I was able to get Kayla’s complete guides for only $39 and saved over $150!

Bikini Body Guide Review
The Bikini Body Guide (also known as BBG) is a twelve-week bikini body workout plan written by Australian personal trainer Kayla Itsines.
Before going any further, I should clarify exactly what I bought. Kayla offers three major products in her Kayla Itsines Bikini Body Bundle.
They are called the Bikini Body Guide 1.0 workouts, Bikini Body Guide 2.0 workouts, and Bikini Body H.E.L.P Diet Guide. You can purchase each of her products separately on her regular or discount site.
I thought it was smarter to buy them in the complete bundle package since she was offering them for only $39 at her 80% discount site, and save money. Since it doesn’t make sense to do the exercise plan without the diet, or vice versa.
The BBG workout 1.0 covers the first 12-week period. It also includes a four-week pre-training plan which you should start with if you’re never exercised in a long time.
After that, you’re supposed to move on to the BBG 2.0 (BBG 2.0; week 12 – 24) with even more challenging workouts.
Each of the Bikini Body Guide ebooks comes in an easy-to-download Kayla Itsines PDF digital format. I received an email with the download links immediately after purchasing them from her discount site.
I was really happy that I got them all right after the purchase, with no waiting. You can use and view them with your smartphone (iOs and Android), tablets and computer.
There is a total of 279 pages for the Bikini Body 1.0 Bundle (BBG 1.0 + HELP Diet Guide) and 199 pages for the BBG 2.0, packed with information.

Kayla Itsines Review
I’ve already mentioned that there are two components to Kayla’s program, exercise and diet. You implement and follow them at the same time, but it will be easier for me to explain the details of each one separately.
Kayla Itsines PDF eBooks Workout
One of the things I really liked about the BBG workouts was that they only take 30 minutes a day. As a busy mommy, trying to find more time than that would have been almost impossible.
You do have to do them six days a week, but I didn’t find that difficult since the time commitment required each day was so short. And most of the exercises turned out to be kind of fun.
There are two types of workouts which you alternate:
- High-intensity interval training for three days a week
- Low-intensity steady state workouts for the other three days (you get one day off).
The high-intensity exercises are fully spelled out clearly for you in the workout plan. Since they’re four different routines that you do for just seven minutes each, you don’t get bored. They’re a mix of things like;
- squats and so on.
You can choose your own low-intensity workouts such as biking, walking, yoga, group classes or using an elliptical machine. Since I already had the treadmill, I did that. The option to choose, however, is great for those who get tired of the same workout.
You do need a few pieces of equipment to do the exercises: either barbells or dumbbells, a jump rope, and a bench. You can use a chair or a low, heavy table to replace the bench. However, you will have to buy the dumbbells and jump rope unless you already have them or want to do your workouts at a gym.
To be honest, the dumbbells were an expense I wasn’t expecting. They really weren’t too pricey, though, and I was glad I got them so I could keep exercising at home after I finished the BBG workout program.
The first four weeks of the Kayla Itsines workout (pre-training) is really thought out well. You’re actually doing a simple version of her regular exercise routines, so you can build up your strength and stamina before getting discouraged.
After that, the exercises get progressively more difficult, and I found that they were planned just about perfectly to give me extra challenges as I was ready to handle them.
BBG Workout Program 2.0
When I got to BBG 2.0 (weeks 13-24), the workouts got much tougher with some serious resistance exercises included. But I had already lost a bunch of weight (more about that shortly) and actually looked forward to the tougher routines.
You need one additional piece of equipment for Bikini Body Guide 2.0, a foam roller. I pick one up quite inexpensively for only $13 from Walmart. The foam rolling is particularly important for muscle recovery and rehab once you’re doing strenuous workouts. I was really glad that it was included in BBG 2.0 workout plan.
The Kayla Itsines BBG spells out all of the workouts in great detail and I found the program extremely easy to follow. As I mentioned earlier, that was one of the criteria I used to pick a bikini body guide and I wasn’t disappointed.
I have no regrets purchasing Kayla’s fitness plan. And I’m really happy that I was able to purchase them for only $39 using the 80% discount link and save over $150 off their regular price.
Kayla Itsines Diet Plan
Designed to go hand-in-hand with the workout, the BBG Diet isn’t just a diet. It contains key information on how to change the way you eat. So you can enjoy delicious, healthy meals which will also speed up your metabolism to burn fat more quickly.
The more closely you follow the eating plan that comes with the diet plan, the easier it will be to ditch two of your biggest enemies (junk food and snacking) and eat healthy for the rest of your life. I thought I was already eating healthy, but I learned a lot from the H.E.L.P. nutrition guide.
The diet guide comes with a full 14-day meal plan, complete with substitution ideas and recipes. What’s particularly cool is that there are both “regular” and vegetarian versions of the BBG diet.
I’m not personally a vegetarian, but I thought it showed that she’s concerned with good nutrition for everyone who might buy her guide, and didn’t just throw together an eating plan just to be able to sell one.
I did find that the amount of food I was allowed to eat was slightly less than I needed to feel comfortable. The diet is based on 1600 calories a day, so I added a little extra food (all healthy, of course!) into my routine a few days a week and I was all good.
BBG Program Pros And Cons
You’ve probably guessed from the earlier part of my review that I found more pros than cons for Kayla’s BBG workout program.
- Easy to Follow: Complete, specific, step-by-step directions and menus make it a snap to start Kayla’s program and stay on track to lose weight.
- Graduated Difficulty: The exercise routines start easy, but get more challenging over time as your body can handle the workouts.
- Efficient: Only 30 minutes of exercise per day are required, (with one day off per week).
- Life-Changing: The exercises and nutritional plans and information can help you live a healthier life once you’ve reached your immediate weight loss goal.
- Fun: I really enjoyed the variety of workouts and exercises.
- Requires Equipment: Kayla’s workout plan does require you to have a jump rope and a dumbbell, although you can use the ones available at any gym or purchase them for less than $30 altogether.
- 1600 Calories: The recommended diet in the BBG may be a bit low on calories for some people, but you can easily add to the menus.
- Price: Kayla’s complete program costs well over $200, but I was able to purchase them for only $39 with the 80% discount link.
My Results With Kayla Itsines Guide
You’ve probably already guessed my results from the “teasers” I left through this review.
Kayla Itsines Bikini Body Guide worked wonders for me.
Let me be honest: I didn’t lose weight right away (I kept getting onto the scale to check!).
But it took less than a week for me to feel great. I had a lot more energy and didn’t always feel exhausted anymore.
After about a month following the Kayla Itsines guides, I had lost almost ten pounds. Talk about motivation!
I stayed with the program religiously (except as I said earlier, I added in a little extra healthy food from time to time). Week after week I felt better and better, and my weight kept dropping.
By the time I finished BBG 1.0 and moved on to BBG 2.0, I had lost more than 20 pounds! Just as importantly, my figure was starting to return to “normal.”
I could tell that the way things were going I really would have my bikini body back, just as Kayla promised.
I won’t bother running through my month-by-month results (yes, you know I kept a chart and pictures!) – because here’s what’s important:
After about six months, my 50 extra pounds were gone!
I could fit into all of my old clothes again, and I was actually proud of the way I looked when I’m out at the beach or malls with my family. I’m playing tennis regularly again, too.
And I know with the exercise routine and eating habits I’ve learned from the Kayla Itsines ebook, those 50 pounds won’t be coming back.
