Sometimes, food rules can suck yet some foods can really ruin your health so take note!
If you eat a ‘dangerous food’ – foods filled with toxins and GMO’s – once, it does not mean you will get really sick, develop cancer or die. There are particular foods that you should avoid if you have the opportunity to make a choice.
Very processed foods contain additives, which are the harmful and damaging culprits. We do not have definitive knowledge on the effects these science-based types of foods can have on the body in the long run.
Keeping this in mind, it is best for your health to avoid the following 12 foods to reduce your risk of long-term consequences.

- AMERICAN CHEESE Well, American cheese is not really cheese at all. Depending on which brand of American chees you choose, it is actually a factory creation. This concoction made out to be cheese is in fact just a blend of cheese-like food product including a little whey protein, milk fats and solids, emulsifiers and some food coloring. It is also high in salts from all the sodium used to produce this so called “cheese”. It has so much fat content it could almost pass as a meat product rather than dairy.
- PROCESSED MEATS Stay clear of the deli! Processed meats including ham, salami, hot dogs, and bacon do not just contain an array of unhealthy fats. Particularly those containing nitrates or nitrites can have as much as 400 percent more alts and 50 percent added preservatives compared to red meats. Nitrates and nitrites are chemical additives that although have been linked to a variety of cancers still continue to be used to increase color, taste and preservation. Look for these ingredients on processed meat labels and choose meats that do not contain them.
For a long time margarine has been considered to be a healthier option compared to standard butter. It has been labeled like this due to being produced from vegetable oils and having a lower cholesterol and saturated fat content. Margarine is in fact very high in salt and trans fat that do not fair well for your arteries. Trans fats are like saturated fats in that they increase blood cholesterol levels and heart disease risk. Dietary cholesterol has recently been found to be less harmful that previously thought. When sold in tubs the trans fat content is less than what margarine sticks contain. If you are looking for a healthier option olive oil is number one and the real deal, butter a close second. Toss the margarine!
- SOFT DRINK
We all know soft drinks are at the top of the list for bad beverage options due to being very bad for your health. In case you missed the memo, one can have 10 teaspoons of sugar. Ten! That’s a lot for one small drink. Think of all those empty additional calories you are drinking without even knowing it. An excess production of insulin – which usually aids in sugar absorption from your blood stream for energy use– can occur due to consuming too much sugar. You can develop diabetes and potentially some types of cancer from the constant increase in this response. As mentioned above in regards to soft drink and its diet varieties, artificial sweeteners are linked to many different health issues. Another point of interest regarding your health is that the digestive system finds it hard to break down substitutes of sugar. You’re just giving yourself significant stomachaches, which aren’t any fun to begin with, not to mention the consequences on your body.
- CONVENTIONAL GROWN APPLES
Recent research has proven that produce famed conventionally isn’t nutritionally inferior to organically grown produce. Pesticides used in the process of growing conventionally grown produce can damage your brain and nervous system. This type of damage can lead to the development of cancers, hormonal imbalances, irritation to the eyes, skin and lungs. Even if you wash and peel your fruits and vegetables prior to eating them, pesticides can still hang around.
Ideally you should spend money on the least contaminated fruits and vegetables. These include:

If you buy one thing that is organic in the supermarket, ensure it is apples as 99% of apples contain some form of pesticide residue!
8.CONVENTIONAL CHICKENS AND EGGS
Conventionally raised (that’s non-organic) chickens and their eggs go through some crazy procedures! The feed they consume can contain different chemicals such as:
- Banned antibiotics
None of these are what you expect your chicken to have been fed, particularly if you are ingesting it!
Naturally(organic) grown and raised chickens and eggs are the way to go for your safest consumption as they are less likely to have been fed this type of fed and have a reduced risk of giving you salomonella.
- FOOD WITH POTASSIUM BROMATE
Potassium bromate is particularly found in foods such as breads and crackers, as it is used to help them rise while being baked. This chemical has been linked to various cancers and is banned in many countries! If that isn’t a good enough reason to stop eating it then I don’t know what is!
Ensure to look for this ingredient on the nutritional labeling and avoid buying and eating them. If you buy freshly baked breads ask your baker if potassium bromate is an ingredient they use, next time you visit the bakery. Choose Potassium Bromate free as much as possible.
- MICROWAVE POPCORN
The bags microwave popcorn is in are generally lined with the chemical perfluorooctane sulfonic acid (PFOS). PFOS can impact fertility, risk of cancer and your kidney function. Although not labeled ‘TOXIC’ it is a good idea to avoid microwave popcorn all together.
The popcorn itself can have had trans fats added, which are not good for your health. Popcorn bags are labeled with artificial flavors or natural flavors, which do not indicate exactly what has been used on the kernels, such as MSG. MSG and diacetyl butter flavoring can cause a number of side effects including:
- Respiratory damage
Avoid the bagged popcorn and opt for homemade air popped corn on the stove. At least, you know what process it has gone through and choose your own topping.
- FOODS WITH PROPYLPARABEN
Propylparaben is a common ingredient used in many individuals’ favorites corn tortillas and various muffins. If a product includes this ingredient, it will be listed in the nutritional label. So make sure to check it next time you buy these goods! Propylparaben acts like estrogen and can put your hormonal balance in disarray. Research has shown that this chemical can quite possibly affect your fertility and escalate the growth of breast cancer cells.
- PACKAGED FOOD WITH TWO OR MORE UNIDENTIFIABLE INGREDIENTS
Packaged foods such as preserved meats, chips and cereals contain the antioxidants BHT and BHA. BHT stands for butylated hydroxyanisole and BHA stands for butylated hydroxytoluene, both have negative effects on the body and are not the antioxidants wanted in your body! In large amounts, BHA can impact the size of your ovaries and hormone production due to being an endocrine disruptor. BHT is just as bad as if affects your motor skills and has been linked to liver tumors. If you struggle to read these ingredients or understand what they are then it is best to avoid these and others like them.
